Have you ever wondered how your favorite Instagrammers find such cool spots for their photos? Or how do they manage to post from exotic locations? It’s probably because they add a location to their Instagram bio. If you’re a travel blogger or just a social media addict, then you should definitely add a location to your Instagram bio. Naturally, this will increase your chances of being discovered by local users and potential followers (both local and non-local). That said, if you want to be discovered by more users in your area, or if you aspire to meet more people who share your passions, adding location is a must. Read on and see how easily that can be done.
How To Put Location In Instagram Bio
Before we move on to how to add a location to your Instagram bio, let’s first understand why you should do this. The primary benefit of adding location to your bio is that it helps you find Instagrammers who share your interests and passions, even if you’re not in their geographical proximity. This, in turn, boosts your chances to connect with like-minded people and may even lead to friendships, collaborations, and business connections. In other words, adding location to your Instagram bio is a great way to expand your social media presence beyond your current location and connect with people around the world. This can help you make new friends, expand your network, and discover new places and people to photograph!
Step 1: Go to your Instagram profile.
Once you’ve added a location to your bio, you can access it by tapping the “Location” option in your bio. If you’re not sure how to add a location to your bio, then you can follow the steps listed in the next section.
Step 2: Select the location
As soon as you tap the “Location” option, it appears on your screen. So, all you need to do is to select the location you want to add to your bio. This is a very simple process, so don’t worry about being confused or how to include a location in your bio.
Step 3: Add a new profile
If you want to add multiple locations in your bio, just do as follows: Tap “Settings” and select “Profile Consistency”. Then tap “All”. You can tap and drag any of these locations in there to add them. To delete any of the selected locations from this list, simply long-press on that location’s box and it will be erased automatically. Once you exit from the settings menu, your Instagram bio will look like this. Let’s Go Through The Steps
- Go To Your Instagram Profile
- Select Location
- Add New Profile
- Select All Locations As you can see above, I’ve added numerous locations for my Instagram bio. My location includes my city (Singapore), countries I’ve visited (Australia & Japan), and the country where I live (Singapore). So far so good! But if you want to include more than three profiles that are different from each other, this article may not be useful for you since they are listed with their respective countries instead of the city where they are located!
Step 4: Add the place name after your username
Followed by the word “at” and the name of the place you want to share, like so: “My Name at New York City”. You can add more places to your Instagram bio by repeating the same process and adding a new location after each instance of your name. Your Instagram bio will look like this after you’re done adding locations.
Step 5: Edit Profile
If you want to edit your Instagram profile while you’re on a location-filled page, press on the hamburger menu in the top right and then select “Edit Profile“, or “Settings”, or retrieve this by tapping on thepen and then select “Edit Profile” from the drop-down. After entering “Edit Profile”, all of your locations are listed with a description like the below:
Here’s another example of what it looks like when you’ve filled up all of your locations.
It’s easy to see how many locations you’ve added to your Instagram bio, but if you still have some empty spaces, then read on! You can easily add another place after each time you use your name or nickname. For example, I’ve added my city and country because my username has become “ridleykim08”, while all other names are listed below as “AT New York City”. So, my profile now looks like this:
So now I can fill in more places in my bio if I want to!
Step 6: Add a short location descriptor after the place name.
Once you’ve added a place to your bio, you can modify it to give a short description that may entice your followers to visit the place. However, be careful not to over-write, as people may not read the entire description. A simple, yet descriptive, sentence would be enough. If you still aren’t sure how to add a short description to your Instagram bio, here’s a quick tip: Start with a “Why” or “What” statement. This will help you make a strong statement. And it will also prompt your followers to make a decision – they’ll either click on the “Learn More” link or ignore the sentence completely.
Step 7: Save and exit
Once you’ve added a location to your bio, the only other thing you need to do is click “Save” and you’re good to go. Remember, the “Learn More” link in your bio leads to a page with all the places you’ve added to your bio. You can click each of those locations to see pictures of the places and read their descriptions. Now you have a simple Instagram bio that tells people where you’re from and which places you visit!
Even though I have a long bio, it doesn’t look bulky or annoying to people on my feed. So even if I read the entire bio, I’ll only be able to see what’s important and will leave out most of the information. What’s more, is that people can add links to my profile on their own if they want more info about me. By adding this location tag, it makes my profile unique in a very good way for me.
3 easy ways to find the best places for your photos
Instagram Search
If you don’t have a specific place in mind, you can try searching for “best places” on Instagram. I have listed the most popular hashtags related to best places below:
#best_places #best_places_to_eat #best_hdr #best_aerial #best_streetphotography #bestplacesfortravel #hiking #hikingaddictraleigh #flyfishingbuncombecountycharlotteville
Your followers will help
Next time when you post an Instagram photo, someone who follows your account may be able to point out your place of interest. If they’re sure of what they say and it’s a place that is located nearby you (within 50 miles), then go ahead and add it to your bio. You might also want to tag the location in your caption or mention that in your comment section.
Add locations through hashtags or geotags
There are other ways for people to find out about locations that you like. You can use hashtags or geotags surrounded by the two dashes (-). For example, for some ice cream shops, use this hashtag: “icecreamwithdashes”. If you want to add a word with a hyphen -like “likes” then tag using this hashtag: “#likes”. Lastly, there are also special tags reserved only for sharing photos on Instagram: “insta”, “photo”, etc … There is a lot more you can do to make your photos visible on Instagram. So, as soon as you have a few good places in mind, go ahead and add them to your bio!
