Considering a career in AI? As with many tech jobs, navigating the path to a career in AI doesn’t necessarily have to take the traditional route; with talent and commitment, you can establish a successful career.

The tech industry has been under the spotlight lately with reports first of a shortage of people to fill tech roles, and then mass lay offs among the larger tech organizations. With the tech word constantly changing, there are always plenty of opportunities to be found; just take a look at tech recruiter Motion Recruitment’s tech job board. With so much speculation over AI, from content creation to the metaverse, one thing is certain: AI is likely to feature heavily in our lives for the foreseeable future, and some tech experts are going to play a fundamental role in shaping what that future looks like.

Valuable Skills For A Career In Ai

It may come as no surprise that expertise in the cloud, programming and strong math skills are all very useful if you are considering working in AI. As AI technicians charter unknown territory, a good footing in AI ethics may well be useful, as AI interventions today could impact the world tomorrow.

Programming skills are perhaps the most important if you want to stand out in AI recruitment: The usuals such as Python, Java, Prolog, R and Lisp will all be valuable.

    Gaining Hands-On Experience

When you are competing for a sought-after job, it can be hugely beneficial to gain some hands-on experience. If you are even considering a job in AI, then it will be helpful for you to get any experience you can, from work experience to internships. Anything that can demonstrate a deeper understanding and practical knowledge will help you to stand out from other less experienced candidates. Finding a mentor can be useful too; in a competitive industry, subtle elements such as being able to express an understanding of industry challenges and opportunities can help showcase your suitability for new roles.

    Consider Your Ideal Industry

Although we refer to the “tech industry” as one entity, it spans across all verticals. AI affects everything from commerce to healthcare, gaming to finance, so it helps to know which particular areas you are passionate about so that you can focus on them and hone your skills and experience accordingly.

    Be A Lifelong Learner

The tech industry is, by definition, constantly evolving. You may have the latest insight and skills today, but unless you work on it, they are guaranteed to become very out of date in the very near future. With new processes and technologies emerging on a constant basis, you don’t have time to rest; you need to stay up to date with the latest innovations, understand and be able to analyse the opinions of leaders in the fields, devour the latest information from AI journals, and engage with the broader community to develop greater insights and provide your own perspective. In short, a career in AI is more than a career; it’s a lifestyle.

    Job Opportunities In Ai

Like any career in tech, a career in AI offers plenty of different opportunities. These include:

    1. Data Scientist – A data scientist uses statistics and computer modelling to solve problems. They are involved in collecting data from multiple sources, performing analysis on it, and interpreting it to find insights and inferences with an effective solution to businesses’ problems. Both AI and Machine Learning are the integral basis of data science, and this is where the two are used for predictive analytics and regression.

    2. Big Data Engineer– A Big Data Engineer manages and creates a firm’s Big Data tools and infrastructure. They understand how to utilize data to get results for their organization.

    3. AI Engineer – AI Engineers work with traditional machine learning technologies like neural networks and natural language processing in different facets of development, designing and building of AI-based applications. They are efficiently perform extraction of data from several sources to build up and test the machine learning models. These models are then deployed using API calls or embedded code to create AI-infused applications.

AI engineers deal with unique design challenges, which directly result from combining the logic as found in traditional applications.

    4. Robotic Scientist – Robotic Scientists help design mechanical models and machines to complete activities that humans can perform but would not do or cannot do. A of mechanics, electronics, engineering and math, this role is varied and requires a range of skillsets

    5. Information Research and Computer Scientist – Information research and computer scientists use data to create new technological solutions for firms. They find and develop innovative applications for existing technologies, and undertake activities with programming and robotics, algorithms and cloud computing.

    6. Machine Learning Engineer – Machine Learning engineers in high demand in AI. This role can be a great fit if your ambition lies in machine learning as a career option. A machine learning engineer can design software that results in the automation of predictive models; you literally programme a machine to disseminate and react to new data. It is essential to have strong analytical and math skills in order to progress in this role, as it can be noticed that creating algorithms is their key job function. Also, excellent data management skills are essential for them.

Wherever your skills and strengths lie, there are plenty of exciting opportunities within the area of Artificial Intelligence; tech recruiters will be able to guide you towards roles that will fit your skills.
